Weerthof | projects, performances & installations
Boosting the necessity of thinking for oneself and dismantling the roles between artist and audience are some of the pillars in my work. I'm quite the smooth talker. Or at least; compared to others it seems that way. What a waste..
But in no way I am to be held responsible. You reap what you sow. If you still wish to find truth in my words, I'll gladly redirect you to my songs.
• Telefoon Telegraaf (2010)
One moment you hear the telephone, the next you recieve the Telegraaf.
"(..)Amidst a big pedestrial crossroad stands an old fashioned black phone on a white base. Would you pick up, you'd be ensnared in Van de Weerthofs scheme of selling you the Telegraaf, a populistic newspaper. An act inspired by Van de Weerthofs recent undercover anthics in the world of telemarketing."

Telefoon Telegraaf came to be in cooperation with Remy van Rooijen, thanks to bART and unknowingly supported by HMS Customer Contact Service and De Telegraaf.
• Karma Generator (2010)
"Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon,
you come and go, you come and go."
Culture club - Karma Chameleon
A full week I collected the unaccomplished projects and unfulfilled dreams of my audience to execute them myself. This being an attempt to attain a maximum of positive karma for my family and myself in dire times. Of course this is self-interest and therefor counterproductive.
Karma Generator is a multi media project, executed during a residency at IDFX in occasion of Interference Festival.
• Almelo Hengelo Makedonijo (2010)
A sound composition blaring from the speakers.
A middle class lease car. The flag of Macedonia.
Dordrecht, Papendrecht, a sultry Tomtom voice, a song of Esma the gipsy queen and oh the joy of being white.
Also available as live performance.
• Hole 0 : Zen (2010)
Toni van Tiel & Michiel van de Weerthof.
A minigolf performance installation with Toni van Tiel and Michiel van de Weerthof at your service, leveling the court as true Gods, fearlessly creating instant holes.
Part of the art minigolf court at the Midgetgolf exhibition at the DMTloods in Den Bosch.
• OmenameSHOW (2009)
The OmenameSHOW is the live incarnation of Omenamehu, and is a festive and vagarious mix of music, dance, performance and acrobatics! Overwhelmingly entertaining!
The Omenamehu OmenameSHOW initially was part of the NewJacks program of Incubate festival in Tilburg (NL) as a reaction to the work of Hermann Nitsch. Will his intentions become more effective when the in-your-face method of Nitsch is replaced by the mechanics of entertainment? Catharsis can be fun!
musicians: Jak Peters, Sander Linders, Rijnder Kamerbeek, Nada Chourbaji | acrobatics and acts: Wietske Vogels, Leila Köckenberger |
dance and choreography: Daphne van den Dobbelsteen, Darline Deprez | host, director, music and concept: Michiel van de Weerthof
• Audience audio (2009)
Jak Peters & Michiel van de Weerthof
Musicmaking for dummies. If nobody understands what's going on anymore, then things start to get interesting. We act as instructors to let people, who think they can't make music, show ontherwise. In the end the audience is playing the complete song and we do 'very little'. But how bad is the audience really in music? And how good are we in instructing?
Songs: Northern Light - Jak Peters & Kilimanjaro - Weerthof
Filmed by Rijnder Kamerbeek @ Theatre Kikker Utrecht 2009 during 'de Grill', a varieté-programme by Danibal and Jan Schellink.
