Weerthof | video

My videos show I have a musical mind, not a visual one. I don't care much about equipment quality, unlike the music, the staging and editing. Talking imagery. Basically I film like I compose; an associative explosion, assembled afterwards. When image and sound come together to form a whole, I'm a happy man.

• Hoofd, schouders, knie en teen International
(2010)

A linguistically accurate song of universal celebrative nature. Using the International Phonetic Alphabet to create the globally non-understandable party song!

Big thanks to all the wonderfull participants in the video: Paul Salemink, Diana Ejaita, Jesse Smitskamp, Wendy van den Bos, Lisah Baert, Lonne Gosling, Barbara Knapper, and all the happy people in the DMT-loods. Special thanks to: Theo op ten Berg and Frans Reyner.

• Omenamehu (2009)

The non-infotainment kid show for adults. An eclectic assault on language. Omenamehu received a grant from the Dutch Art & Architecture Fund (Fonds BKVK). Which is very nice of them.

'"(...)By postulating the literal in a figurative sense, or by taking the figurative too literally, Michiel van de Weerthof is able to create a totally adjustable world. Absurd? ..it depends... ".

De optocht (the Parade) (2008)

You may like it or not, but we are the stars of our own concert. De optocht (the parade) is a video-installation for 5 viewscreens. A parade of visual songs of bikes, trees, pretty women, birthdays, attics, people and many other instruments.

'The parade' is a video-installation for 5 viewscreens. Made specifically for my solo exhibition in Moira, Utrecht.

Arrangementen (2006 - 2009)

It can be so simple. You hit rocks: music. Two cigarettes tumble on an escalator: a dance. 'Arrangementen' is an ongoing series of short films about the everyday symphony, in which we sometimes are instrument, sometimes are conductor.
